Ten Steps To Revision
Writing is rewriting. In this forty-five minute-long workshop, students will take a current draft of their own writing, and revise it using the ten steps to revision guide. Before students revise their own work, Kate will give examples of each of the ten techniques using novels such as Poppy by Avi and Far From Fair by Elana K. Arnold and picture books such as Feathers Not Just for Flying by Melissa Stewart, Kitten’s First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes and 100 Bugs! by Kate Narita. This workshop is best for up to sixty students in grades three and up.

100 Bugs! Scavenger Hunt
This forty-five minute-long presentation starts with finding the 100 bugs in 100 Bugs!. Afterward, students will rotate through three stations: a 100 bug scavenger hunt in the building, five sensory bins that each have 100 hidden bugs and filling in ten, ten frames with 100 bugs. Best suited for preschool through first grade for groups of sixty students or less.

Ladders-Not Just for Climbing
Kate Narita and Suzanne Kaufman use a ladder or mirror structure in 100 Bugs! That means that the second half of the story repeats what happens in the first half of the story. Kate will read BOY + BOT by Ame Dyckman and Dan Yaccarino, a book that goes up the ladder and comes back down. Then, she will introduce Madame Martine by Sarah Brannen, a book that goes up the ladder twice. After discussing the books, Kate and the students will create a story planner together. The presentation will end with students beginning to plan their own stories using a ladder or mirror structure. A forty-five minute-long workshop, for up to sixty students, best suited for first through third grade.

Kirkus Reviews Starred: "Packed with great extension possibilities, visually engaging illustrations, and quick rhymes, this read-aloud would be a great addition to any STEM shelf. (Picture book. 3-6)" Publishers Weekly: "In this cheerful outing, two sibling “explorers” wake up with the sun to count bugs over the course of a day on their busy farm. As the brother and sister traipse through a meadow and barnyard with a magnifying glass and a butterfly net, Narita introduces insect varieties in upbeat rhymes." |
