Book Trailer #30: I Want to Eat Your Books

Zombies and mummies, need I say more? It turns out I do because in addition to this book being a ton of fun, it introduces young readers to various genres.

Activity name: We Want to Eat Books

Activity description: In Karin LeFranc's book, the zombie devours books. He starts with non-fiction then eats his way to science fiction. Which genres do your students devour? Ms. LeFranc has a fun book log where students can chart the books they've devoured and note the books' genres. But don't stop there. Have a genre celebration. Ask students to come into class in costume. Take a picture of each student holding his or her favorite book from his or her favorite genre. Then, ask him or her  to write a paragraph explaining why they gravitate to that genre. Collate the class book together. Rest assured that your students will have a fun reference guide they can study under the guise of having fun, and that they'll know how to respond next time someone asks them the genre of a specific book.
