Lower elementary teachers, be sure to check out the activity book and the teacher's guide below. Both pdfs contain the template for the pizza collage activity. Activity Name: Pizza Collage Activity Description: Make your favorite pizza using ingredients you color on the handout, or draw and color your own!
Upper elementary teachers, don't let this book pass you by. Put it to use in your fraction unit.
Activity Name: Pizza Pie Day Activity Description: On 12 by 18 construction paper, trace a plate. Make three copies of your tracing. Then, draw a line on one circle to divide it in half, on another circle draw fourths, and on the final circle draw eighths. Make multiple copies of each circle. Give some of your students halves, some of your students fourths, and some of your students eighths. Tell them they are going to turn their circle into a pizza. Have them draw their favorite toppings onto their circle. Then, tell them they have to trade their circle pieces with two other classmates so that they end up with one half of a pizza, one fourth of a pizza and two eighths of a pizza. Finally, I ask my students to write a short story, using the fractions 1/2, 1/4 and 2/8. I look forward to using Pizza Day to introduce our Pizza Pie Day. www.melissaiwai.com/
