Fourth Grader Reads The War that Saved My Life

If you haven’t read The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley by the end of the year, you are definitely NOT a true fourth grader. The book has exciting, heartwarming, and heartbreaking moments. Read on to find out why.
First of all, The War That Saved My Life was very exciting because it took place during World War II. According to the author, during the war, “A bomb exploded overhead. The streets rang with the sound of shattering glass.”
Second of all, the book had heartwarming moments. When the main character, Ada, and her brother, Jamie, make it back to the caring woman who took them in, the author wrote, “ I put my arms around her, over the top of Jamie’s head. I held on tight.” This is heartwarming because they’re reunited. “It felt like the ocean, like sunlight, like horses. Like love. I searched my mind and found the name for it.
Joy.”
Last of all, The War That Saved My Life is heartbreaking because Ada’s biological mother is cruel to her. When her mom punishes her and shoves her into the cabinet with cockroaches, “the pipe dripped sometimes, so the cabinet was always damp and smelly.”
In conclusion, the book has exciting, heartwarming, and heartbreaking moments. These are all my reasons why you should read The War That Saved My Life. Be sure to read it!
